More about the GAEB editor: formats, workflow and common questions
Edit GAEB files and read the bill of quantities as PDF
A GAEB file contains a structured bill of quantities. Items are organised by references and include descriptions, quantities and units. The Hassolux editor reads these from X83 or D83 and lets you add net unit prices. Original items and quantities remain, so you can review the working state without re-entering the tender in a spreadsheet.
Open X83, edit D83: how do the formats differ?
X83 is an invitation to tender in GAEB DA XML. Headings, item references and descriptions help identify the requested work. After import, enter your prices against the appropriate items.
D83 belongs to the older GAEB 90 family. After import, compare structure, quantities and units with the received source. Renaming a file does not change its format. A PDF or ZIP is not an X83 or D83 source.
Three steps to your LV PDF
- Items and prices
Drop or select the file, sign in and review the imported items. Enter your unit prices; missing prices can remain open.
- Company details and logo
Add your company details and upload a PNG or JPEG logo. PDF details and the billing address are checked separately.
- Review and finish
Check the saved state, validation notices and billing address. Finish the process and download the approved file.
Keep unit prices and unfinished items distinct
A unit price refers to the specified unit, such as square metre, metre or piece. Check quantity and unit before pricing. A blank price remains missing; an explicit zero is different. For a partially completed bill, the PDF identifies open prices and the subtotal of priced items. This supports interim review but does not replace a final offer check.
LV PDF for preview and sharing
The PDF presents the saved bill in a readable form. After downloading, check company details, hierarchy, sample line amounts and totals. Downloading sends no email and submits no offer. If the client requires a structured GAEB offer, you need the appropriate return format. Read more on the GAEB feature overview and the GAEB guide for Hassolux.
Common questions about completing GAEB
How can I open and edit a GAEB file online?
Choose X83 or D83 and sign in if needed. Upload happens only after sign-in. Add item prices first, then company details and logo. Finish by reviewing the summary and billing address. Notices about content that cannot be processed remain visible.
Can I download X83 or D83 as a PDF?
Yes. The editor creates a PDF from the saved bill. Missing prices remain visibly open. Review it before sharing; PDF does not replace a GAEB offer file required by the client.
Are the original items preserved?
The web editor adds your prices to the imported item references. Original descriptions and quantities remain the basis of the bill. Compare sections and item mappings with the tender documents after import.
Can I continue editing a saved working state?
Yes. Reopen the imported document, add or revise item prices and save the new state. Review the current version before PDF output; a download does not send an offer.
Do I need a Hassolux subscription?
You need a signed-in Hassolux account but no subscription. The standalone editor is for completing one bill and creating its PDF. App features and plans are a separate product. The web editor serves businesses and commercial users.
Which company details are needed for the LV PDF?
Before purchase, provide company name, full address with postcode, city and country, contact email and logo. These details apply to this document. Check PDF details separately from the purchase billing address. A logo or saved address does not confirm substantive offer review.
Can I download a PDF with unfinished items?
Yes. Unfinished price fields remain marked as open in the PDF. Missing prices are not treated as zero. This supports interim review but does not replace final offer checking.
Can I convert a PDF into GAEB here?
The editor processes X83 or D83 GAEB sources. Renaming or uploading a PDF does not turn it into a structured bill of quantities. The GAEB product page explains the full Hassolux workflows.
