How do you open a GAEB file?
Open the Hassolux GAEB editor, select the X83 or D83 you received and review the imported bill of quantities. Start with the project and structure before entering prices. Importing successfully begins the review; it does not confirm a complete offer.
GAEB files contain structured construction information. The official GAEB FAQ distinguishes D83 in GAEB 1990, P83 in GAEB DA 2000 and X83 in the XML family. This standalone web editor accepts X83 and D83, which does not imply support for every GAEB extension.
1. Select the right attachment
Keep the original attachment in an identifiable project folder. Extract it first if it arrives in a ZIP archive. Drawings, appendices and a readable PDF may accompany the structured source. Load the actual X83 or D83 and keep those other documents for comparison.
Where several versions exist, compare the date, filename and sender's message. “Final” in a filename is not reliable version evidence. Renaming a PDF does not create structured GAEB data.
2. Load it and wait for the result
Select or drag the source into the editor's upload area. Follow the displayed file formats, limits and sign-in steps. Wait for the document to load before selecting another file.
Read any specific error. An incorrect exchange phase, damaged source or unsupported content requires a different response from a missing unit price. Use the opening-problem checklist to narrow it down.
3. Check the structure from top to bottom
Compare the project name and available site information with the enquiry. Check expected headings and subsections, several item references at the beginning, middle and end, quantities and units, and preliminary notes and long descriptions.
Notes can apply to several items even when no price appears beside them. Read how to interpret a bill of quantities before collapsing a section.
4. Read first, then price
Understand the scope before calculation. A price must refer to the specified unit. Leave an unknown price blank rather than using zero as a placeholder. Required bidder fields appear with the relevant item; red marks identify missing or reviewable information. An optional comment does not replace a required answer.
Renaming X83 as PDF is not conversion. For P83, ask the sender for a compatible export. Importing, editing or downloading does not submit an offer to the client; follow their format, attachment and delivery rules.
